PCC to hold virtual Competition Law and Policy Regional Roadshows for MSMEs, consumers

The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC), in partnership with the various key city government units, the regional offices of National Economic and Development Authority (NEDA) and Department of Trade and Industry (DTI), will hold a series of Online Regional Roadshows on Competition Law and Policy from July to September, highlighting the relevance of the competition policy amid the pandemic in the local economies of the host regions.

The event in Cordillera Autonomous Region on July 22, 2021 kicks off the advocacy series to fulfill its commitment of improving the public understanding of competition law and policy among businesses, including micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), consumer groups, and other stakeholders. After the northern Luzon leg, the rest of the online regional roadshows shall be held in Cagayan Valley, Calabarzon, Central Luzon, Eastern Visayas, and Zamboanga Peninsula scheduled on August 11, 18, 25, September 8 and 22, 2021.

The roadshow offers an opportunity for participants to learn about the fairly new Philippine Competition Act (Republic Act No. 10667), and its implementing agency, the Philippine Competition Commission.

“The competition law and policy may be fairly new in the Philippines, but the underlying concept of fairness and leveling of the playing field are established principles in the conduct of business. PCC’s regional roadshow will be informative and useful for businesses and consumers in navigating the movements in the region’s demand and supply of goods and services amid the pandemic,” said PCC Executive Director Kenneth V. Tanate.

As competition authority of the country, PCC promotes market competition and investigates anti-competitive mergers that result monopoly or elimination of emerging rivals in the market, anti-competitive agreements such as cartels and bid-riggings, and abuses of dominance among businesses.

Attendance to the webinar is open to all and available for free. For the northern Luzon leg, registration is at https://bit.ly/PCCRoadshow_CAR or https://tinyurl.com/PCCatCAR. An email will be sent to the registered email address with the link to watch the event.
