PCC shares best practices in competition law and policy at APEC Peru 2024
PCC Mergers and Acquisitions Office Director Lianne Ivy P. Medina shared the Philippines’ experiences in fostering cooperation between regulators and competition authorities for effective assessment and regulation of digital markets during the workshop on “Regulatory and Competition Challenges in Digital Markets” at the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Competition Policy and Law Group (CPLG) Meeting 2024 in Lima, Peru.
The Philippine Competition Commission (PCC) delegation participated in workshops held alongside the recent Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Competition Policy and Law Group (CPLG) Meeting 2024 in Lima, Peru.
Director Lianne Ivy P. Medina of the PCC Mergers and Acquisitions Office shared the agency’s expertise during a workshop focused on regulating digital markets. She highlighted the implementation of the National Competition Policy (NCP), which lays down a whole-of-government approach to adopting competition principles in issuances and interventions of national government agencies, government-owned and –controlled corporations, and local government units.
The two-day workshop held on 27-28 February sought to learn from the best practices of participating economies in the application of competition policies over digital markets. Apart from the Philippines, other economies that shared their best practices are United States, Chile, China, Indonesia, Malaysia, Mexico, Papua New Guinea, Peru, Russia, Thailand, and Viet Nam.
The PCC delegation, led by Commissioner Lolibeth Ramit-Medrano, also joined a workshop on navigating complex merger cases and ensuring compliance with competition laws on 29 February – 1 March.
